C TRAN, along with four other organizations, received a Mini Grant from the Rural Health Network of South Central New York. The Mini Grants will assist organizations to expand transportation services or assist individuals in need of transportation.<\/p>\n
C TRAN received the Mini Grant award to pilot an additional stop on the existing Elmira to Owego route. C TRAN anticipates that the service traveling three times daily to the Tioga County Health and Human Services Building located at 1062 State Route 38, Owego N.Y. will begin in April 2016 and continue through December 2016.<\/p>\n
The complex houses a public health clinic, WorkforceNY offices, Access VR, Mental Hygiene, Department of Social Services, and Veterans Affairs. The additional service will also make the Tioga Opportunities office accessible to bus riders. C TRAN will evaluate the ridership in the fall to see if it warrants seeking additional funding to make the changes permanent.<\/p>\n

C TRAN started the Elmira to Owego Route when Tioga County\u2019s Ride Tioga transit service discontinued in November of 2014. \u201cWith the loss of Tioga County\u2019s public transportation system it is critically important that non-profit health and human service transportation programs serving Tioga residents be supported and expanded when possible,\u201d said Jack Salo, executive director of the Rural Health Network of S.C.N.Y.<\/p>\n
The funding for the projects was made possible through New York State Department of Transportation funds awarded to support Mobility Management of South Central New York (MMSCNY), operated under the auspices of the Rural Health Network of S.C.N.Y.
\nOther Tioga Mini Grant recipients were Catholic Charities Tompkins\/Tioga, who received a Mini Grant to assist enrollees of its employment program to better access transportation services; the Community Care Network of Nichols, who received a Mini Grant to support the coordination of volunteer transportation in the Nichols and surrounding areas; Northern Tioga Neighbors Network, who received a Mini Grant to support its Volunteer Coordinator; and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tioga County, who received a Mini Grant to support its continued coordination of Neighbors Helping Neighbors which supports four volunteer-based organizations in Tioga County.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
