A press conference to promote the 2016 Tioga County Job Fair was held on Wednesday, March 2 in the Hubbard Auditorium located in the Ronald E. Dougherty County Office Building in Owego, N.Y. Speakers at the press conference included Sheri McCall, Employment Center manager at the Tioga Employment Center; Martha Sauerbrey, chair of the Tioga County Legislature; and Jennifer Willis, Senior Staffing supervisor at Kelly Services.<\/p>\n

A coordinated effort between the Tioga Employment Center, Tioga Chamber of Commerce, Tioga County Legislature and Tioga County Economic Development and Planning office, the second annual Tioga County Job Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8 and will be held at the Owego Treadway Inn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Job seekers from Tioga County and surrounding counties in New York and northeast Pennsylvania are encouraged to attend.<\/p>\n

Two floors inside the Owego Treadway will welcome job seekers, who will have the opportunity to speak directly with employers who have open jobs to fill. Eighty-two employers are participating this year, which is an increase from 61 employers last year. Job opportunities encompass a broad spectrum of occupations, from entry level to higher level professional positions.<\/p>\n

McCall stated, \u201cThe job fair will be well represented by occupational clusters.\u201d<\/p>\n

McCall explained the occupational clusters include customer service, manufacturing, construction, financial, insurance, sales and marketing, home health care, and various health care and hospital positions, among others.<\/p>\n

McCall added that several new businesses will be represented at the job fair. One example, Crown, Cork and Seal, a manufacturer of packaging products for consumer marketing companies with focus on producing two-piece aluminum cans in a new facility planned in Nichols, N.Y., could add more than 160 new jobs. Another business coming to the job fair for the first time, Tradesmen International, will present jobs within the construction industry.<\/p>\n

With unemployment numbers slightly lower than last year, McCall and Sauerbrey are positive about the local employment climate.<\/p>\n

Sauerbrey stated, \u201cWith eighty-two businesses participating at the job fair this year, it is a clear display of where we\u2019re going. We had an excellent year last year, with new development and new business in Tioga County.\u201d<\/p>\n

Willis encourages everyone to come to the job fair, and shared, \u201cKelly Services will have multiple \u2018temp to hire\u2019 opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sauerbrey commented, \u201cIt is very important for people to come out to the job fair. \u00a0My expectation is that we have more jobs available than we have people,\u201d and for people looking to switch jobs, she added, \u201cIt is also a chance for people to improve themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seven hundred forty-one people attended the job fair last year. Marketed to all age groups, the job fair is an excellent resource to help meet the needs of a wide range of age groups, such as high school seniors looking to enter the labor market following graduation, college graduates, the unemployed or the employed looking for a different job.<\/p>\n

Individuals attending the job fair will receive a package of information at the job fair registration desk, which will include a list of employers and available jobs.<\/p>\n
