This week, it\u2019s the 2016 Lincoln MKC we\u2019re driving, available in four trim lines of Premier, Select, Reserve and a special Black Label edition. MKC is Lincoln\u2019s high-end compact SUV, sharing showroom space with larger cousins Lincoln MKX, Lincoln MKT and Lincoln Navigator. Our MKC arrived in Reserve trim with AWD and features the noted Lincoln plush interior and a push button activated six-speed automatic transmission. Along with a bevy of safety and luxury amenities, the MKC is an attractive five passenger SUV available in front drive or AWD mechanicals.<\/p>\n

All Lincolns receive lots of TV and newspaper advertising with Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey at the helm. Although we all know this great actor is paid for his endorsements, word around the automotive loop is that he really does love Lincolns.<\/p>\n

Nomenclature confusion aside, (too much MK \u201cThis\u201d and MK \u201cThat\u201d) our MKC is a beautiful rendition of what a modern crossover should be.\u00a0There are two engines to choose from, both of the turbocharged EcoBoost design. The standard 2.0 turbo delivers 240-horses and 270 lb. ft. of torque while the optional 2.3 turbo on our AWD tester ($1,140 more) ups output to 285 horses and 305 lb. ft. of torque. Our MKC delivers spirited performance and makes easy the task of merging onto a four lane freeway or making a quick, secure pass on a two lane road. EPA fuel mileage for the more powerful 2.3 EcoBoost AWD\u00a0is 18 city and 26 highway while front-drive MKCs deliver 20 and 29, respectively, with the standard 2.0 EcoBoost engine.<\/p>\n

One of the major options our MKC featured is a recommended $2,295 Technology Package that adds active park assist, adaptive cruise control with collision warning, forward sensing system and lane keep assist.<\/p>\n

Some notable standard features include a power vista roof with power shade, 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, voice-activated navigation system, heated and cooled front seats, cross traffic alert, embedded modem,\u00a0voice-activated Navigation and much more. Our tester added some extra pizzazz thanks to 20-inch Pirelli tires on polished aluminum wheels that add $1,145 to the final tally.<\/p>\n

With its small SUV classification by the EPA, Lincoln MKC will surprise driver and passengers with its \u201cbig SUV\u201d interior feel. There are a few changes from last year, most notable the elimination of the MyLincolnTouch infotainment now replaced with the Lincoln Sync3 system and, thankfully, a smaller learning curve. Lincoln also delivers an even quieter ride, more standard safety features and interior upgrades.<\/p>\n

From a strict aesthetic standpoint, all Lincolns share a special exterior look that is \u201cLincoln distinct\u201d and there are several new models in the waiting, including the return of the Lincoln Continental (well done\u2014no letters) and its upscale MKZ, both scheduled for a 2017 appearance.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll appreciate the attention to detail Lincoln has always been noted for. Today\u2019s modern day Lincolns are far and away some of the best ever built, with emphasis on luxury and outstanding comfort mixed with a good dose of performance underpinnings and engine mechanicals. The rear passengers, albeit tight if three adults try to snuggle in, will appreciate the extra legroom available, while front seat occupants will enjoy MKC\u2019s full leather heated and cooling seats. Modern day high-tech items are standard and include everything from a rear camera with reverse sensing system to an automatic rear cargo hatch with hands free abilities. All the air bags and numerous other safety features are standard as Lincoln MKC earns four and five star government safety ratings across the board. Your Lincoln dealer will gladly explain in detail all features when you visit the showroom.<\/p>\n

The independent suspension and four-wheel ABS discs with traction control make for steady handling while the fully automatic 4WD adds to the driving security.<\/p>\n

Important numbers include a wheelbase of 105.9 inches, 3,952 lb. curb weight, from 25.2 to 53.1 cu. ft. of cargo space, 15.5 gal. fuel tank and 3,000 lb. maximum tow capacity.<\/p>\n

Lincoln MKC\u00a0in any dress is a statement of good taste and an excellent selection in this crowded market. You\u2019ll also appreciate the smaller Lincoln touches of class, like a small A-pillar vent windows that won\u2019t hide traffic on the left or right from your view to Lincoln badge illumination on the ground during evening entry and exit. (Very nice!)<\/p>\n

Lincoln MKC is worthy of your consideration if shopping this market. Your dealer will happily explain any current incentives and\/or special discounts.<\/p>\n

Likes: Quality build, EcoBoost engine, luxurious interior, good looker.<\/p>\n

Dislikes: Less cargo capacity than competitors, tight rear seat for three adults.<\/p>\n
