{"id":48677,"date":"2016-02-06T16:00:06","date_gmt":"2016-02-06T16:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/owegopennysaver.com\/?p=48677"},"modified":"2016-02-07T16:00:43","modified_gmt":"2016-02-07T16:00:43","slug":"upstate-shredding-receives-state-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.owegopennysaver.com\/PS\/2016\/02\/06\/upstate-shredding-receives-state-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Upstate Shredding receives state award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Tioga County Department of Economic Development and Planning would like to congratulate Upstate Shredding, LLC on their $1 million dollar New York Upstate Revitalization Initiative (URI) award, which was granted to support the construction of their new 30,000 square foot Heavy Media Plant.<\/p>\n<p>This $5.4 million dollar project, implemented by Upstate Shredding and Weitsman Recycling, will be constructed in the Tioga Industrial Park in Owego, N.Y.<\/p>\n<p>The new media plant is a state-of-the-art processing technology that will further process zorba, a shredded mix of non-ferrous metals consisting primarily of aluminum generated by eddy-current separators and other segregation techniques, to separate out the aluminum from the heavies (copper, brass, zinc, and stainless).<\/p>\n<p>Upstate Shredding, a long-standing family owned business in our community, has continuously shown a strong commitment to job creation and economic growth within Tioga County.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of this project 25 new jobs will be created in the area. The project will also generate approximately $30 million in annual revenue for the regional economy.<\/p>\n<p>According to Adam Weitsman, president of Upstate Shredding, \u201cWe are excited to build the facility at our current shredding operation in Owego as it gives us the opportunity to employ even more people here in the Southern Tier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New York URI is a major component of Governor Andrew Cuomo\u2019s initiative to systematically revitalize the economy of Upstate New York.
