Boy Scout Troop 38 will be hosting a spaghetti dinner and silent auction fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Elk\u2019s Club, 223 Front St. in Owego.\u00a0Suggested donation is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and children, kids three and under are free.\u00a0Carry out will be available.\u00a0Bids for the silent auction will be accepted until 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Boy Scout Troop 38, chartered by First Union Presbyterian Church on Temple Street in Owego, has successfully been selected for a 2016 trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.\u00a0Troop 38 scouts will be camping with their own unit as well as meeting and sharing experiences with other crews from all over America.<\/p>\n

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America\u2019s largest national high-adventure base.\u00a0It covers 137,000 acres \u2013 about 214 square miles \u2013 of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico.\u00a0Philmont Scout Ranch provides an unforgettable adventure in sky-high backpacking country along hundreds of miles of rugged, rocky trails.<\/p>\n

Troop 38\u2019s Philmont crew has committed themselves to a 10 day 80 mile hike over parts of the Santa Fe Trail once blazed by Kit Carson.\u00a0Their crew will be made up of industrious boys, ranging in age from 14 to 17 years old, who are planning to embark on this unforgettable adventure.<\/p>\n

This experience comes with a price and Troop 38\u2019s Philmont crew is trying to raise a large portion through fundraisers so that any boy who wants to participate can go.\u00a0In addition to the spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Jan. 30, the boys will be going door-to-door collecting cans and bottles on Saturday, Feb. 13.\u00a0 Call Ann at (607) 621-3064 to schedule a pick-up of any cans and bottles you want to donate.\u00a0Cans and bottles may also be dropped off at A&S Redemption Center located at 442 North Ave. in Owego through Aug. 1.\u00a0An account has been opened under \u201cTroop 38\u201d.<\/p>\n
