The Farmhouse Brewery helped close out the 2015 Tioga County Chamber of Commerce Business Show held Oct. 8 at the Owego Treadway Inn and Conference Center in Owego, N.Y.<\/p><\/div>\n

On Oct. 8, the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce was host to their annual business show at Owego\u2019s Treadway Inn and Conference Center. The annual event was initiated years ago to provide area merchants and businesses a catalyst for networking with one another. And this year was no different.<\/p>\n

Themed, \u201cThrough the looking glass\u201d, Gwen Kania, CEO and president of the Chamber of Commerce, wanted to offer the community an even further glance at the products and services offered right in the Southern Tier.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s event, underwritten with by sponsor Tioga State Bank; and sponsored by Tioga Hardwoods, Inc.; The Owego Pennysaver; Community Bank, N.A.; Tri-Town Insurance; Visions Federal Credit Union; The Owego Treadway Inn and Conference Center; New Radio WEBO, and AM&T; welcomed guests at 9:30 a.m. and officiated this year\u2019s show with a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting, with Fred Akshar, GOP candidate for Senate, selected to cut the ribbon.<\/p>\n

Guests, many who arrived early, were able to browse through two floors of business displays, talk to their respective representatives, and were even treated to samplings of products and foods.<\/p>\n

Sue Michaels, from the Kitchen Store in Owego was busy preparing Butternut Squash Perogies for guests arriving, and shared her booth with her daughter Maren, who has recently added her professional artwork and classes to the array of activities that The Kitchen Store has to offer.<\/p>\n

Lynn Price, admissions and CTS outreach specialist for Job Corps\/CHP International, Inc., had a booth at the show to inform guests about job training and education resources available through their organization. According to Price, the opportunities are out there for people to learn new skills that will help them integrate into the workforce.<\/p>\n

The Owego Dog Owner\u2019s Group (ODOG) was also on-hand with a display that highlighted the opportunities for guests and their canine friends at the newly opened Rebecca Weitsman Dog Park at Hickories Park in Owego. ODOG is the not-for-profit volunteer organization that has formed an agreement with the Town of Owego to upkeep the park.<\/p>\n

Nancy Eckstrom, ODOG president, showed guests a PowerPoint presentation of the dog park build process, and was surrounded by a basket raffle that contained treats for dog lovers, and offered snacks for canine companions.<\/p>\n

Over at the Visions Federal Credit Union display, there was plenty of chocolate, and information on investment and banking services.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is always a great event,\u201d said Laura Maerkl, business services officer for Visions Federal Credit Union, adding, \u201cWe are proud to be a sponsor each year.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the guests, the Annual Business Show is always an enjoyable event and an avenue to learn more about what the Southern Tier has to offer.<\/p>\n

Emma Sedore, Tioga County Historian, spent a portion of the afternoon visiting business and non-for-profit representatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s fun to come and network with other organizations,\u201d said Sedore. \u201cIt\u2019s a really nice event,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
