Marissa Silba and Kristina Knight, from Cadette Troop 41211 of Newark Valley, N.Y., completed their Silver Award Project on Aug. 15, 2015 with over 60 hours of work at Stray Haven in Waverly, N.Y.\u00a0These girls started their work back in October.\u00a0They visited their local pet shelter to see if they could see something that they could help out with and create their Silver Project.<\/p>\n

As the girls came in, they realized, there wasn’t a good directional sign at the road\u00a0to lead people towards the shelter.\u00a0And that’s what they targeted to do.\u00a0They also noticed the shelter has no sign on their building and being there were several buildings there, people still don’t know where to go.<\/p>\n

They created and painted\u00a0two wooden signs to achieve their goals.\u00a0Special thanks to Mike Nash of United Industries for donating\u00a0his time and wood to assist in designing the signs. The girls made stamps by hand to paint\u00a0paw prints around the sign as well for an extra cuteness.<\/p>\n

On top of creating and finishing these two\u00a0wooden big signs, they also spent an entire day in the hot summer painting\u00a0white paw prints down the\u00a0driveway leading to Stray Haven.\u00a0They also up-cycled old t-shirts that were donated and created about 40 dog chew toys.<\/p>\n

With a can drive, they were able to come up with all the supplies needed for their silver award and $65 in dog and cat food\u00a0and supplies.\u00a0The day they presented the Project, they\u00a0also volunteered at the shelter\u00a0caring for the needs of the animals, which is what they really enjoyed.<\/p>\n
