The Town of Candor has reported the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Town of Candor residents,\u00a0the\u00a0Town Supervisor\u00a0has declared\u00a0a state of emergency for the Town.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As you should know by now extreme flash flooding has closed and\/or damaged many of the 135 miles of their Town roads. At this point they\u00a0are not certain\u00a0they\u00a0have closed all the roads that need to be closed. Therefore,\u00a0they are asking residents to avoid\u00a0travel if possible and use extreme caution if you absolutely must travel.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The National Weather Service is reporting that a Flash Flood Warning is in place until 6 a.m. Monday.<\/p>\n

With heavy rains pounding the region, on and off for several days now, and with lower lying areas experience flash flooding, some area neighborhoods have been evacuated, and a more recent report from FireWire states that a bridge is collapsed in Newark Valley.<\/p>\n

The U.S. National Weather Service out of Binghamton, is currently reporting major flash flooding occurring throughout our area, and noted that the roads are very dangerous \u2013 especially at night.<\/p>\n

The weather service continues to receive reports of flash flooding in the Watkins Glen Area, including Tyrone and Altay, along with Newfield, N.Y. If you encounter flooded roads, according to the National Weather Service, do not cross them.<\/p>\n

They are expecting new rounds of heavier rain overnight, so this situation may be exacerbated by morning.<\/p>\n

Also, according to FireWire, there are numerous roadways closed in Tioga County due to major flash flooding in Candor, Spencer, Weltonville and Newark Valley.<\/p>\n

FireWire is also reminding residents to not drive on flooded roadways, and remain home if safe to do so. Travel is not safe in those areas at this time.<\/p>\n

Currently, according to FireWire, there are bridges washed out, sink holes, roadways washed away, and roadways covered by flash flooding.<\/p>\n
