The American Red Cross of the Southern Tier will host a First Aid\/CPR\/AED Instructor Training class on Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to noon, and on Sunday, April 19 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Red Cross office located at 620 E. Main St. in Endicott. The purpose of the course is to train instructor candidates to teach the American Red Cross basic-level First Aid, CPR and AED courses.<\/p>\n
To participate in the First Aid\/CPR\/AED instructor course, candidates must be at least 16 years old and possess current American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and\/or AED certification(s) or the equivalent.<\/p>\n
At the end of the course, candidates will be thoroughly familiar with the program materials and be able to:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Exhibit the characteristics required of an American Red Cross representative and role model, and conduct courses in a manner that helps participants stay engaged in the learning process.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Perform applicable first aid, CPR and AED skills at an appropriate skill level.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Ensure participants\u2019 health and safety during training.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Maintain complete and accurate records and reports.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Plan, organize and conduct the First Aid, CPR and AED courses in accordance with the requirements of the specific class they will be teaching.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Monitor participants\u2019 practice and provide corrective feedback and encouragement that is consistent with the skill chart.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Recognize that the requirements in the skill assessment tool are criteria for ascertaining the proficiency of a participant\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Choose the appropriate course and materials to meet the specific training needs of participants or groups.<\/p>\n
The cost of the class is $250, which includes a First Aid\/CPR\/AED Instructor Kit and DVD. Anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer instructor may be eligible to receive the instructor training for free if certain criteria are met.<\/p>\n
