Apalachin violinists Miranda and Sophia Werner, pictured, will be holding a recital on Saturday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at the Kilmer Mansion on Riverside Drive in Binghamton.<\/p><\/div>\n

Apalachin violinists Miranda and Sophia Werner will be holding a recital on Saturday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at the Kilmer Mansion on Riverside Drive in Binghamton. The recital is open to the public.<\/p>\n

The program will include music that spans not only a wide time-period, the 1700\u2018s to early 1900\u2018s, but also varied styles, including Baroque and Gypsy-inspired pieces.\u00a0 Pieces include the refined Adagio and Presto from the Bach Sonata in G minor, Monti\u2019s energetic \u201cCzardas,\u201d Sarasate\u2019s \u201cZiguenerweisen\u201d (also referred to as \u201cGypsy Airs\u201d), and three movements of Lalo\u2019s fiery \u201cSymphonie Espagnole.\u201d<\/p>\n

For a trio, the girls will be joined by their teacher, Linda Case, of Ithaca, former Professor of Violin at Ithaca College and current concertmistress of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. The remaining pieces include a Mozart duet and movements of two de B\u00e9riot violin concertos, written during the early Romantic period.<\/p>\n

The sisters, members of the Binghamton Youth Symphony, have been studying violin since they were seven and five years old, respectively, and have been performing together at local fundraisers and public venues for several years.<\/p>\n

According to Miranda, having two musicians in the house \u201cmakes it easier to play duets whenever we want. \u201cI\u2019m always listening to another person practice – it helps me improve my own playing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regarding performing, Sophia says that she \u201cenjoys performing because the audience enjoys it.\u201d Sophia\u2019s especially excited to play \u201cCzardas\u201d because \u201cit reflects my personality because it has many different moods and tempos.\u201d She says it\u2019s a combination of sad, hopeful, happy, and sometimes even fierce.<\/p>\n

The violinists will be joined by Pej Reitz on piano. The recital is free, with donations accepted to further the performers\u2019 music education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
