The Cellar\u2019s legendary homemade brunch accompanied by the smooth and dynamic sounds of live jazz will delight guests attending \u201cSunday Morning at the Cellar\u201d on Jan. 25 in historic downtown Owego, N.Y. The well-known local jazz band, Triple Down, is scheduled to play from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., during the Cellar Restaurant\u2019s regular Sunday brunch period, which is hosted at their 196 Front St. location from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

Cellar Restaurant owners Sandy and Bob Layman invite you to relax with friends and family, savor fine food prepared from scratch, and enjoy jazz entertainment by Triple Down. Whether you prefer a quick breakfast or would rather sit back and relish in the atmosphere with a more leisurely stay, guests can invest whatever time works for them.<\/p>\n

Sandy Layman shared that menu prices range from $3.50 for a homemade Danish with coffee to a filet mignon with lobster hash for just under $20, and all prices in between. \u00a0 Self-described as \u201ca down to earth bar and restaurant in an inviting hometown atmosphere,\u201d the Cellar prepares all meals from scratch and caters to guests\u2019 dietary restrictions including vegetarian, gluten free and lactose intolerant. Chef Bob Layman has perfected his culinary skills to create dishes that \u201cdance in your mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The famous \u201cfrom scratch Danish,\u201d in cheese, blueberry and apple flavors, are an extremely popular item made by Bob. So popular, even the menu states \u201cget yours before they\u2019re gone!\u201d Guests will find an immense selection of brunch favorites, including a variety of omelets and one-of-a-kind eggs benedict selections, like the house-smoked salmon benedict which is topped with hand-whisked hollandaise sauce.<\/p>\n

Sandy Layman explained, \u201cEverything is made to order, and we will do our best for special requests on dish variations.\u201d<\/p>\n

With French toast made with thick Brioche, Belgian waffles, pancakes, crepes, cheese blintzes, salads, and burgers and chicken dishes on the menu, and that\u2019s not all, there is sure to be something every guest will like. There are plenty of side dish choices, too, hand-made syrups like honey-cinnamon and blueberry, among others, as well as beverages for every taste. A full bar opens at noon on Sunday during the brunch period.<\/p>\n

Performing as an instrumental quartet on Jan. 25, Triple Down includes Keith Nichols on keys, Michael Wu on bass, Jesse Bennett on sax, and Cooper Casterline on drums. Playing jazz standards like Duke Ellington and Herbie Hancock and others, Triple Down plans to also entertain guests with a slight mix of funkier fusion material, with added tunes from Miles Davis and John Coltrane.<\/p>\n

Michael Wu, a contributing musician to several regional artists and also a member of The Gunpoets, shared his take on Owego\u2019s music scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a musician and a fan of live music, the Owego music scene is great,\u201d Wu said, and added, \u201cTriple Down\u2019s support has been outstanding and we are grateful for that. We helped fill a gap for the Owego music scene with our jazz band.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Sunday<\/a>

Keith Nichols will play keys on Sunday, Jan. 25 at the Cellar Restaurant for the event, Triple Down Jazz – Sunday Brunch at the Cellar.<\/p><\/div>\n

Wu credits the Tioga Arts Council and several other restaurants and establishments in the Owego area for supporting live music. Wu shared, \u201cTriple Down is focused on local shows in the area, which in turn helps support the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Triple Down fans will remember hearing them play at Tioga Trails and the Parkview.\u00a0 During their summer Thursday night jazz series last year, a special guest musician performed with the group as well. Band members are from Owego, Apalachin and Waverly, including Virginia Young on vocals when playing full version. Triple Down members are also busy with other musical ventures.<\/p>\n

Nichols plays with the band Playin\u2019 Possums, Bennett is a full-time musician and hosts live jazz in Waverly called the Bookstore Sessions, and Casterline plays in the bands Revelation Now, Tijuana Danger Dogs and the Tim Ruffo Band (TRB).<\/p>\n

The live jazz event is family-friendly and welcomes all ages. There is no cover charge to attend the brunch during Triple Down\u2019s sets. Reservations are highly recommended and guests can make a reservation by calling the Cellar at (607) 687-2016.<\/p>\n
