Julian G. Shepherd, Binghamton University Associate Professor of Biology, will discuss “Bird Life in a Human-Dominated Environment” at the Jan. 20 meeting of the Susquehanna Group of the Sierra Club.<\/p>\n
Drastic alterations by humans of natural environments all over the Earth have left bird populations with much less natural habitat to occupy. But many bird species are adapting to these new, human-modified environments and, in some cases, thriving. This talk will consider these changes and look at the future for bird populations on Earth.<\/p>\n
Shepherd is a member of the Executive Committee of the Susquehanna Group of Sierra Club and of the Binghamton Shade Tree Commission.<\/p>\n
At the meeting, Dan Watkins will be presented with the Lynda Spickard Environmental Award. Watkins has led numerous “weed walks” for the Broome County Naturalist’s Club. He is recognized for his efforts toward long-term education and promotion of the natural world.<\/p>\n
A potluck dinner precedes the program at\u00a06:30 p.m. Bring a dish to pass.<\/p>\n
The meeting\u00a0will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 17 Nanticoke Ave., Endicott. The public is invited, free of charge.<\/p>\n
