The Food Bank of the Southern Tier announced recently that Natasha Thompson, president and CEO, pictured, has been elected to serve as the 2015 Vice Chair of Feeding America\u2019s National Council (NAC).<\/p><\/div>\n

The Food Bank of the Southern Tier announced recently that Natasha Thompson, president and CEO, has been elected to serve as the 2015 Vice Chair of Feeding America\u2019s National Council (NAC).<\/p>\n

The NAC is the elected representative body of the Feeding America\u2019s network of food banks. The NAC gives voice to the Members at the national level and helps the Feeding America set goals and policies that affect the entire Network.<\/p>\n

\u201cRepresenting the Eastern region on the NAC for the past two years has been a tremendous honor as well as a terrific opportunity to bring new ideas from around the Nation back to the Southern Tier,\u201d said Thompson. \u201cNext year will be an exciting time to serve as Vice Chair with the Feeding America network to build and sustain hunger-free communities all across America and right here in the Southern Tier.\u201d<\/p>\n

Established in 1981 and headquartered in Elmira, N.Y., the Food Bank of the Southern Tier distributes food and other grocery products to people in need through a network of more than 160 member agencies including food pantries, meal kitchens, shelters and other hunger relief organizations in Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins Counties. The Food Bank also administers several direct service food distribution programs including the BackPack Program\u2122 and Mobile Food Pantry.<\/p>\n

The Food Bank is a member of Feeding America and a regional agency of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rochester. The Food Bank helps fulfill Catholic Charities\u2019 commitment to create a just and compassionate society rooted in the dignity of all people by working together to build and sustain hunger-free communities throughout the Southern Tier.<\/p>\n

Feeding America is the nationwide network of 200 food banks that leads the fight against hunger in the United States. Together, we provide food to more than 46 million people through 60,000 food pantries and meal programs in communities across America. Feeding America also supports programs that improve food security among the people we serve; educates the public about the problem of hunger; and advocates for legislation that protects people from going hungry.
