On Friday, Oct. 10, Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Tioga County held the 13th annual Taste of Tioga from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Owego Treadway Inn and Conference Center in Owego, N.Y.<\/p>\n

Not only a food festival and fundraiser for CCE of Tioga County, the event is a way to promote and build better relationships between farmers, restaurants and the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s all about local,\u201d stated Andrew Fagan, executive director of CCE of Tioga County. \u201cThis event brings together local farms, restaurants and people to celebrate the goodness and fruits of our labor, while helping build a happy, healthy community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fagan was genuinely pleased with the turnout at the Oct. 10 event. \u201cMore restaurants and farms participated this year than ever before,\u201d he said, and added, \u201cIt\u2019s one of the best events to date. We had a high amount of ticket sales.\u201d<\/p>\n

More than 20 farms were listed as having participated, as well as more than 15 restaurants and three wine and beer businesses. Guests were also able to participate in raffles, and were treated to live music, including Phillips Head.<\/p>\n

One of the restaurants at the Taste of Tioga was Angel\u2019s Diner, located at 187 Main St. in Owego, N.Y. Suzanne and Robert Angel served guests potato and gouda cheese pierogies, which used russet potatoes from Mandeville Farm in Spencer, N.Y.; eggs from Our Five Acre Homestead and onions from Maple Tree Gardens, both in Owego; and gouda cheese from Engelbert Farms in Nichols, N.Y.<\/p>\n

All of the restaurants participating used at least two or more ingredients from local farms, such as Owego\u2019s The Cellar Restaurant and The Calaboose Grille, and the Parkview Hotel and Restaurant, just to name a few.<\/p>\n

The CCE of Tioga County hopes that the Taste of Tioga event will inspire everyone to learn more about buying local and supporting the Southern Tier\u2019s ample food sources year round.<\/p>\n

CCE Tioga is a non-profit, educational agency founded in 1913 as an extension of Cornell University.<\/p>\n
