Lourdes Hospital\u2019s Breast Care Center has been granted full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). The NAPBC is administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation is only given to those centers committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care while volunteering to undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.<\/p>\n
According to Janet Muhich, MD, medical director of the Lourdes Breast Care Center, the designation signifies the importance of teamwork. \u201cBreast cancer can be a complex disease. Multidisciplinary care is the gold standard and provides a comprehensive approach resulting in the highest quality of care and the best outcomes,\u201d said Muhich. \u201cThe most important member of our team is the patient, whom we follow from diagnosis through treatment. \u00a0Designation as a NAPBC accredited facility recognizes the combined expertise of our healthcare team in collaborating with our patients and their families. \u201c<\/p>\n
During the survey process, the Lourdes Breast Care Center demonstrated compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. These standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated its commitment to offering patients every advantage in his or her battle against breast disease.<\/p>\n
