The Ti-Ahwaga Players in Owego, N.Y. opens their 55th season Friday, Sept. 26 with the Peter Morgan play Frost\/Nixon<\/i>. The play recalls the history making 197 television interviews conducted by British talk show host, David Frost with then resigned and disgraced ex-President Richard M. Nixon.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this 40th year anniversary of the resignation of Richard Nixon over the Watergate scandal, I thought it would be apropos and timely to take a look back at the events that stunned and rapt the nation in the summer of 1974,\u201d states James Osborne, director.<\/p>\n

Along with the Watergate episode, the play also takes at look at Nixon\u2019s presidency, his successes, the quagmire of the Vietnam war and the ultimate denouement of the resigned President\u2019s admission (or at least as close as he came) to acknowledging a flaw in his thinking and execution of the Watergate break in.<\/p>\n

Osborne goes on to relate his take on the play, the events being recounted, as a \u201cmind game, boxing ring style arena of feinting, bobbing, weaving and gloves off word play that races to the final televised interview which brought Nixon (metaphorically) to his knees and went on to insure David Frost\u2019s career as an \u201centertainer\u201d to be reckoned with.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the cast is Shawn Yetter taking on the role of Richard Nixon, and James Cornell as his foil, David Frost. Others playing team Nixon and team Frost personages are Wm. Clark Snyder, Shane Smith, Micah Neiss, Stan Zawatski, and Joe Schmieg. Joan Anderson and Shannon McManus complete the cast as Frost\u2019s, love interest Caroline Cushing and Australian tennis star, Yvonne Goolagon.<\/p>\n

Frost\/Nixon will be presented Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27, Oct. 3 and 4 and Oct. 10 and 11 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Sept. 28, Oct. 5 and Oct. 12 at the Ti-Ahwaga Community Playhouse at 42 Delphine St., Owego.
