Tim Ball and Sophie Orzechowski is the featured band for the 4 to 7 p.m., Sept. 21 contra with some squares dance at Tioga Trails Caf\u00e9, 50 Lake St., Owego.<\/p><\/div>\n

Tim Ball and Sophie Orzechowski is the featured band for the 4 to 7 p.m., Sept. 21 contra with some squares dance at Tioga Trails Caf\u00e9, 50 Lake St., Owego. Orzechowski and Ball\u00a0play traditional dance music from New England and New York, mixed liberally with tunes from Ireland, Quebec, Sweden and France. Switching fluidly between fiddles, guitar, piano, and accordion, their music is, in turn, lively, earnest, and evocative, and brings the best out of the living tradition.<\/p>\n

Tim Ball dove headfirst\u00a0into the contra dance scene when he went to college in Ithaca, N.Y.\u00a0He’s toured throughout the Northeast with the\u00a0contra dance band Tunescape, and plays more locally with many different musicians.<\/p>\n

Sophie Orzechowski grew up in a musical family and has been playing and dancing since she was little. She learned from many of the stalwarts of the New Hampshire contra dance scene, including Bob McQuillen, Dudley Laufman, and her mother, fiddler Jane Orzechowski.<\/p>\n

Bob Nicholson will be teaching and calling contra and square dances to the music of Orzechowski and Ball.<\/p>\n

Contradancing, like square dancing, is done to a walking step and is easy to learn. No experience is necessary. No partner is required.<\/p>\n

General admission is $7; students and seniors 55 and older is $5; family maximum is $15.<\/p>\n
