{"id":109510,"date":"2026-03-27T19:33:38","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T23:33:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.owegopennysaver.com\/PS\/?p=109510"},"modified":"2026-03-31T19:40:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T23:40:11","slug":"spring-into-action-healthy-habits-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.owegopennysaver.com\/PS\/2026\/03\/27\/spring-into-action-healthy-habits-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Into Action Healthy Habits Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fay\u2019s Fitness, Inc. is sponsoring a Heathy Habits Challenge in Candor, N.Y. \u201cSpring Into Action\u201d starts on April 1 and runs through the month of April.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur daily habits determine the direction of our health,\u201d said Ron Fay of Fay\u2019s Fitness, adding, &#8220;It\u2019s not enough to focus on goals like eating better and exercising; we must work on the systems that created who we are today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Challenge focuses on four habits: drinking water, eating enough protein, cutting back on sugary treats, and being active.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fay added, \u201cWith small, incremental adjustments to our habits, we can make big changes over time in our health. The challenge is super flexible in that you can adjust it to your situation.&#8221;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For instance, he noted, the guideline for water intake is 3-4 quarts per day. For some, this is way too much to start.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBarb and I have a couple of jugs that we fill each day and are setting a goal to drink it; simple stuff that works,\u201d says Fay.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>It\u2019s important that the change in the habit be small. The popular bestselling book, Atomic Habits, by James Clear, makes mention of changing habits at the \u201catomic\u201d level. The change should be small and easy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Per Ron, \u201cthe book mentions how to break destructive habits down into parts.&#8221; For instance, if you want to start going to the gym, start by putting on exercise clothes every day. Once that becomes a habit, go out for some walks, then drive to the gym and stay for 5 minutes; then leave. Gradually stay longer and go three times a week.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>James Clear says in his book, \u201cThe point is to master the habit of showing up.\u201d He talks about using \u201cdecisive moments\u201d and \u201chabit shaping\u201d to ease into habit changes such as going to the gym. Your habit will become established; it will become what you do, and you will rely less on willpower and motivation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpring Into Action\u201d Challenge will be available online for free. Just visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faysfitness.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.faysfitness.com<\/a>, and you can download the information sheet along with the Habit Tracker.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fay\u2019s Fitness is also offering group support for the program, which will kick off on March 28 at 10 a.m. at the gym, located at 41 Owego Rd. in Candor. Group support will include three workshops, online support, and a T-shirt for $80.
