The Historic Owego Marketplace (HOM) presents the annual Lights On The River Festival on Friday, Dec. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. Downtown Owego will come alive with holiday cheer and fun for the entire family. 

Festivities begin at 4 p.m. when Santa’s Reindeer arrive in the parking lot of M&T Bank, with live ice carvings taking place at the corner of Lake and Front Streets. The Purple Lightening Band returns with their lit up marching show beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will light up the Village from the Courthouse Square with the official countdown beginning at 5:59 p.m. Participants may then meet Santa at the Elks Lodge, located at 223 Front St., and receive a free photo courtesy of the Floyd Hooker Foundation.   

Entertainer and Juggler Nate The Great will perform Fire and Light juggling shows at 6:30 p.m. at the corner of Lake and Main Street, and again at 7:30 p.m. on the corner of Lake and Front Street. Also joining the evening’s festivities will be OFA musical students performing around town.

Looking for a quick bite to eat along your way, enjoy “Soups On The Street” when local restaurants Las Chicas Taqueria, The Cellar, Carol’s Coffee & Art Bar, Parkview Dugan Restaurant, Original’s, and the Owego Kitchen set up outside serving hot homemade soup to warm you up! Also visit one of the many eateries downtown all night long for a holiday meal. 

The evening concludes with a festive Fireworks Show launched from Draper Park at 8 p.m.

In addition to these planned events local merchants, charity organizations and social clubs will provide a host of live music, dining specials, refreshments, and shopping discounts all evening long! 

Local residents should be aware that Lake Street as well as Front Street between Church and Court will be closing at 3 p.m., with cars needing to be removed by 2 p.m. The Court Street Bridge, including Court Street and the immediate surrounding area will be closed to traffic beginning at 7:30 p.m. to accommodate the fireworks display.
