Thanksgiving Day Poem

Happy Thanksgiving….
To one and all….
It’s turkey time….
In the late fall….
When I was a kid…
I just couldn’t wait….
I don’t know about you….
But I filled up my plate….
Wake up in the morning….
About half past eight….
And I could smell the turkey….
It was a begging debate….
When I asked my mom….
How long dinner would take….
She said I don’t know….
Go watch the Macy’s parade….
So I had my breakfast….
A bowl of Captain Crunch….
I sat right down….
I liked the floats a bunch….
Miss Piggy and Kermit….
Were the best at that time….
Maybe underdog….
But I’m not sure why…
So back to the kitchen….
For just one more try….
She gave me a no….
Not even a why….
Well dinnertime came….
And I sat next to dad….
I ate so much….
My stomach was mad….
Mashed potatoes….
With just enough gravy….
Taste so good….
It would drive you crazy….
The turkey was done….
So tender and moist….
Dark meat or white meat….
What is my choice….
I had a little funeral….
Right on my plate….
It was for the turkey….
That we all just ate….
That’s being a kid….
At a holiday feast….
Maybe next year….
We could have roast beef….
We had all the trimmings….
That year on our plates….
Good conversation….
As we ate….
Mom baked some pies….
Apple crumb was the best….
Too much on my fork….
It dropped on my chest….
Unbuttoned my pants….
I had too much too eat…
It felt like my belly….
Was down on my feet….
So when you sit down….
At the table this year….
Say a nice prayer….
And make it real clear….
That you give thanks….
For all that you have….
Healthy friends and family….
And a good meal to share….
Happy Thanksgiving….
