Voigt & Schweitzer LLC announces the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 272 Corporate Dr. in Owego for a new hot-dip galvanizing plant. This facility is being built to service the increasing demand for hot-dip galvanizing services in New York State, and will serve to satisfy V&S Galvanizing’s growing customer base throughout the region.
The 75,000 square foot facility will provide high quality, hot-dip galvanizing services for the steel construction market, bridge and highway industry, utility industry and various manufacturing sectors. The facility is set to open by the year’s end and will employ 34 people from the local community in the first year of operation.
“V&S New York Galvanizing is happy to join the Owego community and bring its rich history of high quality galvanizing services, community involvement and successful growth to the area,” said Brian Miller, president and CEO of Voigt & Schweitzer.
The Owego location was chosen from a handful of locations in the area. The proximity to the highway crossroads of I-81 and I-86, the geographic location to larger target market areas, and a strong workforce made the location attractive to the company.
Empire State Development is providing a $375,000 grant and up to $375,000 through the Excelsior Jobs Program in exchange for job creation commitments.
Empire State Development Acting Commissioner and President and CEO-designate Eric Gertler, said, “Voigt & Schweitzer’s decision to expand in Owego, creating new high-tech manufacturing jobs and opportunity in the Southern Tier, reflects the success of our strategic support for growing and revitalizing the Upstate economy.”
The company would like to thank Governor Cuomo, Senator Akshar, Empire State Development, the Tioga County Industrial Development Agency, the Town of Owego, NYSEG, Rick Searles (CBRE) and TEAM Tioga for all of their efforts in making this project happen and allowing Voigt & Schweitzer to become a part of the business community.
