Legion benefits from Eagle Scout Project

Dear Editor,

The American Legion Post 907 wants to acknowledge and give a tremendous thank you to Scout Matt Suttmeier. Matt, while working to achieve his Eagle Badge Rating, took the lead in organizing a property maintenance project for our Post, which was outlined by Post members.

Matt took the lead in organizing the scope of the outlined projects, materials and the manpower required. He was supported by additional Troop 42 Scouts, their Troop Leaders, and Scout parents, with oversight by committee Post 907 Members to assist with equipment and labor as assigned. The scope of the “Project” was amending and upgrading several outdoor recreational areas and miscellaneous items.

The projects planned and executed included patching driveway holes, power washing the main post building, repairing the roof of the bottle donation shed, repairing a perimeter fence and adjoining trellis work with replacement of slat board and painting both, the grooming of several horseshoe pits and edging and amending soil levels, and a rebuild of the children’s playground and swing areas.

Our most sincere thanks to Scout Matt Suttmeier and fellow scout members, Andrew Suttmeier, Matthew Fitch, and David Vega. You all did an excellent job in a timely fashion and demonstrated a great work ethic. It was a pleasure to work with all of you. We at the American Legion Post 907 are very appreciative to the wonderful results you achieved.

Thank you also to troop leaders Joseph Husband, Linda Shield, and Fran Shield; as well as the parents, Don Suttmeier, Pete Fitch, and Dan Vega.

We would also like to thank Owen Parillo, who belongs to the Candor High School Band. He joined us at the flag burning ceremony and played “To The Colors” for us.

Sincerely,

Don Slater

First Vice, American Legion Post 907
