Tioga Center UMC is collecting hygiene kits for hurricane victims

The Tioga Center United Methodist Church is requesting help from the community to contribute and help pack items for Hygiene Kits to be distributed by the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) to victims of Hurricane Disasters.

Monetary donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 247, Tioga Center, N.Y. 13845. One hundred percent of all funds go directly to the disaster relief effort.

Starting Oct. 13, there will be a drop-off box at the side door of the church where items for the kits or completed kits can be left. The church is located on Main Street in Tioga Center.

A Hygiene Kit includes exactly seven items. All items must be new and not washed. No items imprinted with cartoon characters, advertisements, and religious, patriotic, military or camouflage symbols will be accepted.

Kits contain one hand towel – new, 15”x25” or 17”x27” (no kitchen, cleaning or microfiber towels); one washcloth (no kitchen, cleaning or microfiber towels); one comb (sturdy with at least 6-inches of teeth, no pocket combs or picks); one toenail or fingernail clipper (no emery board or metal nail files); 3-oz. or larger bar of packaged bath soap (no Ivory or Jergen’s); one adult toothbrush in the package with no personal advertising; and 10 adhesive bandages (3/4-inch x 3-inch).

Assemble and pack in a one-gallon re-sealable plastic bag along with $2 for toothpaste (due to having expiration dates they can’t buy and include in kit locally) and shipping.

Entire kits, individual items or cash donations will be gratefully accepted.
