While the 108th Nichols Old Home Day could not fend off the rain last Monday, the morning parade persisted as floats made their way down the streets of Nichols on Sept. 2.
Every Labor Day, the Roki Community Club of Nichols holds the Old Home Day in Kirby Park, bringing the community together for fun and games. This year however, with recent storms, the park was flooded, leading them to cancel the main event.
That didn’t stop the people of Nichols lining the streets that morning collecting candy and cheering on their community.
Cash prizes were given out to three crowd-pleasing floats. The Tioga/Nichols Girl Scouts came in first place with its circus-themed float, Dave Kunte with Engelbert’s tractor came in second with their energetic candy throwing, and the Tioga Field Hockey Team came in third with its numbers and enthusiasm.
After the parade the Nichols Fire Department held a chicken barbecue, giving the town a chance to celebrate despite the events of the day being cancelled.
