Following an effort that began in 2016 to restore the Baker Fireman’s Fountain on the Courthouse Square, the final aspects of its restoration were taking shape throughout the week, culminating with celebrations planned throughout the weekend.
On Thursday, Aug. 22, a ceremonial lighting of the fountain took place at 9 p.m., with volunteers involved in the project and members from the community on-hand to witness the lighting.
Judy Legursky, mother of Roy Legursky from Legursky & Sons, who did the electric and plumbing at the fountain, did the honors of flipping the switch for the lighting ceremony at the fountain.
Festivities continue on Friday evening with a sold-out dinner at the Owego VFW. The event features music by The Beatles Band.
A Saturday, 9 a.m. ceremony at the fountain is scheduled, followed by a firefighter’s parade at 10:30 a.m. and then the hose race at noon.
An after party at 5 p.m. at The Rainbow Trail will conclude the celebration. The Gents will provide entertainment for the party.
The Owego Pennysaver will follow this event. You can view our coverage online or on Facebook.
