Effective Communication Strategies for People with Alzheimer’s to be presented in Owego

“Effective Communication Strategies” is an educational program by the Alzheimer’s Association offering tips from the latest research. This free program will be offered on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Union Church, located at North Avenue and Temple Street in Owego.

Communication is more than just talking and listening – it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect.

Join them to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.

Stephanie D’Amico, Associate Care Manager for Alzheimer’s Association’s Central New York Chapter, will be presenter for this program.

They are asking participants to register so they have enough handouts. Call (315) 472-4201 to register for this free program.
