Mission to celebrate 50 years; offering discounts and raffles

In celebration of National Thrift Store Shopping Day on Saturday, Aug. 17, the Open Door Mission in Owego will be having special all-day sales including mystery discounts, a buy-one-get-one-free sale on all books, and a buy-one-get-one-free sale on lamps! In honor of this day, which coincides with their 50th anniversary, they’re inviting Tioga County to celebrate with them.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., they are offering hot dogs, soda, and water for 50 cents each and having a raffle. To get a ticket for the raffle, all you have to do is donate a non-perishable food item. You can even get 10 extra tickets by supporting the backpack giveaway with a $5 dollar donation.

It’s a win-win! You may win a prize, but either way you’re helping your neighbors and having a fun time.

The Open Door Mission / Red Door is a non-profit organization that has served the community for over 50 years, providing a men’s sober living shelter, three food pantries, an outreach center, and ten recovery meetings every month.

The Open Door Mission is located at 425 North Ave. in Owego. You can call them at (607) 687-1121 for more information.
