The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has sent out notification of a bridge rehabilitation project in Owego. The project will replace the decks on three bridges carrying State Route 960J (Exit 65) over State Route 17, the Susquehanna River, and State Route 17C, all located in the town of Owego. The project is currently underway.

During the first part of construction, the bridge over State Route 17 will be restricted to a single lane with alternating one-way traffic while it is under construction. Construction work may include weekend work during the day.

In 2020, both the bridge over the Susquehanna River and the bridge over State Route 17C will be closed to accomplish the planned work, requiring an off-site detour for approximately six weeks. Notes in the contract have been included to ensure the closure avoids the 2020 Owego Strawberry Festival.

While the detour is in place, nighttime work will also be performed. The detour route will be signed, and variable message boards will be used to warn motorists of the closure one week prior to its start.

This project work was awarded to Economy Paving and will be completed by the end of the 2020 construction season.

The Department would appreciate your comments or concerns regarding the project. If you have any questions, contact Andy Martin, NYSDOT Engineer-in-Charge, at the field office at 8208 Route 434 Apalachin, N.Y. 13732 by calling (607) 258-4020, or by email to Andy.Martin@dot.ny.gov.
