Residents, vendors, and businesses alike will take to the streets on July 12 and 13 for the fourth-annual Get Your Flea Fix on Route 96 for a multi community-wide flea market along Route 96 and 96B from Owego to Spencer, Candor, West Danby, and Ithaca and in between, treasures are to be found along the street.
“It’s bigger than a town yard sale,” said one of the organizers, Linda Cole.
In 2015 Linda Cole and Laurie Bostwick wanted to host a community event and eventually ended on hosting a community-wide flea market and yard sale along the Route that Bostwick Auction is on.
With success the first year, and some advertising help from Experience Tioga, Flea Fix became a staple along Route 96 every July. Cole said they’ve had a couple hundred people every year, and each year it grows more.
Cole appreciates the flea market chase and relates it to a treasure hunt and that the treasure differs from place to place.
“You’ll find household items, some antiques, some junk,” Linda exclaimed, adding, “You’ll never find the same flea market twice.”
Not only will there be flea markets scattered along the road, but other businesses and restaurants will be having specials and deals. Including Jackpot Richie’s Chicken BBQ, Iron Kettle Farms, Candor Resource Center and more.
Home Central will be renting 10-foot by 20-foot spaces for $20 for those who may live off of 96 in a low traffic area. Call Russell at 659-4025 for more information. The proceeds from the rental will benefit Stray Haven Humane Society. Other flea markets will be clustered in the fields of Bostwick’s Auction.
