Father Daniel White celebrated his First Mass last Sunday on the altar at his hometown church, St. Patrick’s-Owego, and after his Saturday Ordination to the Holy Priesthood by Rochester Bishop Salvatore Matano in Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester.

The consecration is the essential part of the Mass. Father White has received, with his ordination, the power to pronounce the great and wonderful prayers of the Consecration. Father White elevates the chalice containing wine, “This is the cup of my blood.” (Photo provided by Jim Raftis, Sr.)

Grand Knight Gil Phillips, of the Knights of Columbus, says his Knights sponsored Father White during his seminary days. Father Daniel White with parents Larry and Debra White. Larry is a long time employee of IBM Owego and a retiree of Lockheed Martin. Debra is a retired Newark Valley Central School System employee. Larry and Debra always sit for mass in the last pew, where they proudly watched their son celebrate his first of many Masses. Bishop Matano made an exception by naming Father White the new Parochial Vicar of St. Patrick’s where his parents were married. Father White succeeds Father Anthony Amato, who is transferring to St. Maximillian Kolbe-Ontario and St. Katherine Drexel-Macedon in Wayne County effective June 25.
