Tioga County businesses partner with Catholic Charities for successful Festa Italiana fundraiser

Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga held a well-attended Festa Italiana pasta dinner on Thursday, March 14, to raise funds for the agency’s programming in Tioga County. The event, hosted at the Owego Elks Lodge, raised nearly $4,000, thanks to the generosity of the dinner guests and event sponsors.

Guest chef and Owego Town Supervisor Don Castellucci orchestrated Festa Italiana. Members of Blessed Trinity and St. Patrick parish, and Owego Boy Scout Troop 60 provided volunteer set-up, servers and clean-up crew.

The following Tioga businesses and organizations sponsored the fundraiser: Tioga State Bank, Tioga Urbanscapes, Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, Hill’s Automotive Center, Lourdes Hospital, Original Italian Pizza, Tioga Real Estate, Hollenbeck’s ShurFine Grocery Store, Entrust Wealth Management, Knights of Columbus Council 251, Lawler’s Liquor and Grocery Store, The Owego Pharmacy, Visions Federal Credit Union, Carol’s Coffee and Art Bar, Gail’s Diner, and Spencer ShurFine.

In-kind donors include TOPS market of Owego, Tioga Downs and Soprano’s Italian Market. Mary Grassi of Endicott provided Italian music. A presentation by Tiffany Beaver, former client and current staff member of Catholic Charities at the Nichols office, highlighted the agency’s work in employment services and Food Stamp application outreach.

Catholic Charities serves hundreds of at-risk youth and low-income people in Tioga County each year. Contact the Nichols office at (607) 414-1023 for further information or to learn about volunteer opportunities.
