Harrison Avenue incident results in drug arrest

On Tuesday, Feb. 19, Endicott Police arrested a 28-year-old Harpursville man on drug charges following an incident and subsequent investigation that occurred the day before at a Harrison Avenue residence in the Village of Endicott.

Officers responded to a residence on that road at around 4 p.m. on Feb. 18, following a report of a despondent subject.

Over the next few hours, the individual refused to leave his residence, while officers continued to negotiate with the subject.

By 7 p.m., the individual voluntarily exited the Harrison Avenue residence and was taken into custody for evaluation.

During the incident and subsequent investigation, officers discovered components of a methamphetamine lab located inside the residence.

The New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (CCSERT) was called in to ensure that the hazards associated with methamphetamine production were properly mitigated.

As the search of the residence continued into Monday night, officers seized numerous items used in the manufacture of the illicit substance, along with a large quantity of meth oil.

Phillip A. Sergeant, 28, of state Route 7 in Harpursville, N.Y. was arrested Tuesday on one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the second degree, a Class A-II Felony; and one count of Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine in the third degree, a Class D Felony.

Sergeant was arrested during a traffic stop on North Street in Endicott, and is being detained at the Broome County Correctional Facility, pending arraignment.
