On Oct. 17, 2018, the Greater Binghamton SCORE Chapter 217 celebrated its 2018 Entrepreneur Recognition at Traditions at the Glen. Business leaders, educators, representatives from Broome, Tioga Counties and NYS Assembly and Senate from across the area gathered to celebrate some of the region’s newest businesses.

Les Howard, chair of the SCORE Greater Binghamton Chapter explained, “SCORE’s mission is to foster vibrant small business communities through mentoring and education. We’re delighted to see the dreams of these entrepreneurs come to life as they establish their businesses right here in our community.”

Each of the entrepreneurs recognized at the event participated in programs at the SUNY Broome’s Entrepreneurial Assistance Center and received mentoring services from SCORE.

“It’s an exciting time for our community as we’re building the resources and infrastructure to grow small businesses and enhance economic opportunities and overall prosperity in the Greater Binghamton region,” added Howard.

Entrepreneurs from Tioga County that were recognized include Joseph and Michele Alig from Waterman’s Distillery in Apalachin, N.Y.; Michele Barnes from Creative Joy in Owego, N.Y.; Roseann Cole from TRC Industrial in Nichols, N.Y.; Janelle Malia from The Black Cat Gallery in Owego, N.Y.; Tammi Seeley from Up the Creek Women’s Consignment in Owego, N.Y.; and Meghaan Velasco of MJ’s Bar and Restaurant in Owego, N.Y.

SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses start, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship. SCORE has existed for more than 50 years and is supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). More than 300 Chapters, with 11,000 volunteers across the country deliver mentoring services at no charge and educational workshops at very low cost.
