I am need of electric wheelchair transportation from the airport in Binghamton to Lounsberry as I am relocating my sister from Texas. The date is Sept. 30, possibly 5:30 p.m. If you can help, I am willing to pay. Call 240-1678.

Is anybody else in the area getting phone calls from a San Antonio, Texas 210 area code and a Knoxville, California 209 area code saying that they are tax and finance and are investigating your address? Sometimes it’s a ladies voice and sometimes a man’s voice. Please respond if you have been getting any of these phone calls. I’m sure they are bogus calls.

Hey you guys, if you’re old enough, can you remember that Burt Reynolds did come here to the valley many times to visit with the Prinzi fellow because he played football with Vic Prinzi in Florida. Aren’t we lucky and what a nice guy!

~

Could someone please tell me what the free swim hours are for the Owego pool and Tioga Central pool when school is in session? They’re not open on the holiday days either, are they? I would appreciate the information.

~

Here are some goods things to talk about. The Taste of Tioga last week was wonderful! The venue was perfect, the owner of Tioga Downs was so generous, and the food was plentiful and delicious. The flowers were beautiful from the Master Gardeners and the entertainment was super! Also, the quick clean up at the bottom of McLean was well noted. Keep up the good work, there’s a lot more to do before winter. A job a day, hopefully. And about the $10 million, nothing new needs to be done, make improvements, knock down some of the blighted houses in the village and turn them into small parking lots as they do in other tourists towns and in Europe as well. Nothing crazy, nothing new needs to be done, just a good clean up. Let’s keep Owego great.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that a lot of the localized flash flooding is caused because nobody is worried about dredging creeks or taking care of water runways that are supposed to be taken care of. It used to be, years ago, we never had to deal with flash flooding. If they started with the source to get to the bottom of the problem they might be able to figure it out, but apparently we don’t have any engineers that work in our county to do something about it. There you have it, that’s where your tax dollars are going!

~

This is to the people that have the farm where the cats are being shot. I think that’s just horrible. You need to call the humane society; it’s against the law to shoot animals like that.

~

Could someone please give me the name or number of a collector?

~

How many more months are the new traffic lights in Newark Valley going to be covered in plastic? Route 38 in the village is in pretty bad shape also.

~

I want to send out a big THANK YOU to the very nice lady in the white SUV that helped me out a few days ago at the Kwik Fill near the school, when I ran out of gas on the way to fill my tank. She kindly filled her own gas can and took me to my car. After I put some gas in the tank and offered to replace it, she refused my offer with a smile, and simply said, “Pay it forward when you have the chance.” I will. I sincerely appreciate the generosity and kindness. To re-purpose a very old phrase, “Yes, Santa Claus, there is a Virginia.” Thanks, again.

Let’s see which politician will take credit for wasting more of our money by having walk, don’t walk signals installed at the intersections of 434 and 17W, 17E, Glann Road and Griffin Drive, among other locations. Who did the traffic study that shows the mass of people that walk along a 45 MPH road where there is no sidewalk? Why didn’t they spend the money to pave that washboard they call 17/86 from Apalachin to Owego.

The lack of civil discourse and critical thinking in this column is disconcerting, to say the least. I may be quite young, but it amazes me how my “superiors” revert to name-calling and refuse to leave their echo chambers instead of thinking objectively. This country deserves better from its citizenry. We can do better. I’m willing to bring civility back to our discourse. Are you? ~Cicero

National Political Viewpoints

If you want to change government, get out and vote people! We have an election coming up and it’s a very important election. Get out and vote and we’ll turn this country around and get it back on track the way it should be. This country is going in the wrong direction, we have a dictatorship and this has got to stop, so get out and vote!

Hey you guys, how about helping an old lady who wants to be nosy? I may have read it but I forgot it. Whatever happened to Trump’s mother? I just want to know. I know it’s none of my business, but he sure turned out to be one hell of a jackass for a man. I’d be ashamed of him. Thanks a million and have a great day!

~

I can understand when a person gets in trouble you have the right to pick your own attorney. Since when is a person, including this joker Trump, offered the right to pick his own judge? Justice for all? My butt!

~

Are we really a Christian nation? I wouldn’t think so the way some adults are acting like a little child in a store isle kicking and screaming because mom won’t buy him something that he desperately wants. Perhaps members of congress as well as the rest of the country need a constant reminder of a discussion we give to grade school students. It is in regards to bullying and the golden rule of do unto others. Also, we discuss with them how to be a gracious loser because we can’t always be on the winning side.

~

I see Obama’s out on the campaign trail. Wouldn’t it be great if he would go campaign with Donald Trump and read some of the things Donald Trump has done in the office in less than two years and all Obama did was tear the country apart, sneak money to foreign countries, tell Putin that was his last election and then he would be more flexible. Please print this!

~

Trump corrupted the presidency, Trump has corrupted congress, and now Trump is about to attempt to corrupt the Supreme Court. What a country! I’m thinking about moving the hell out.

~

I was greatly disturbed by a comment somebody made telling President Trump to go to hell. We should pray for our leaders and not curse them. I don’t like Hillary and Bernie but I wouldn’t wish them to go there. This business of political comments has really gotten out of hand.

~

If you think it’s bad that members of the NFL take a knee or refuse to stand during the National Anthem or presenting the American flag, that’s nothing. You just wait and see if Brett Kavanaugh in the Supreme Court seat decides to let Trump go, free of all charges. How many Americans will turn their back on the National Anthem now? No man above the law, all men are created equal, one nation under God, you can go on and on with these pretty words. I hate to say it, but it seems that’s exactly what they are, just words. Actions speak louder than words. What’s happening to America? Come together, not apart!

~

The Democrats say the economy is not good, but then they send out Obama to campaign for them and he wants credit for the economy, so what gives? I know it’s only a handful of people at Obama’s rally, what a joke. Obama is only paying himself if he thinks he deserves credit, no matter how small of the booming economy. He’s trying to ride on Trump’s shirttails. Under Obama the economy was non-existent, the unemployment was high, and millions were on some type of government help. Need I say more?

~

So the headline reads one third of New Yorkers are on Medicaid, most of it going to New York City. Now that’s something to be proud of. The article also went on to say New York spends $75 Billion a year on its health insurance program, far more than any other state in the country. Cuomo must be defeated November. Hopefully Trump campaigning will pay off!

~

What a pleasure to see Obama again on public television. He was so refreshing and so intelligent and classy instead of Trump’s nonsense, incompetence and lies. Like Obama says, how hard is it to say we should stand up to bullies and not follow them. Thank you Obama, you are so right!

~

This is in response to the person in last week’s column asking why Robert Mueller is still continuing with these Witch Hunt investigations. It’s because he has had multiple sentences and convictions from people in Mr. Trump’s world. I doubt he can lie his way out from Robert Mueller. And it certainly doesn’t matter how well the economy is doing.

~

In 1974 I registered as a Democrat because of JFK, RFK, JBJ, Hubert Humphrey, Martin Luther King Jr. and even Bill Clinton. In 2010 I became a Republican because of Barak Obama, Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and Andrew Cuomo. What happened to my former party? It went from the party of the people to the party of “What do I get for free?” and we are a global society. We need to return to America First!

~

I just watched an interview with Donald Trump Jr. He was arrogant, ignorant, and disrespectful. I understand where he gets it from, but how pathetic. I was taught to be polite and honest when speaking to someone with authority. Such a shame for a young person to grow up believing that entitlement is a given and not earned. Shame on President Trump.

~

So Obama said we need a president who is not working with Russia. Well what was what he doing when he was still in office, leaning over to a Russian diplomat and telling them I’ll be more flexible after the election. Obama had the lowest labor participation since the 1970s, almost 95 million Americans out of the labor force. He had the worst recovery since the 1940’s, lowest home ownership rate in 51 years, and almost 13 million more Americans on food stamps, over 43 million living in poverty. One in five families without someone in the workforce, one in six men ages 18-34 were either incarcerated or out of the labor force. There was more debt than all other presidents combined.

~

Dear Liar and Chief Trump, let me get this straight. Only 3,000 people died in the Puerto Rico Hurricane as a result of your administration doing great job. So if 2,500 people die on the East Coast of the United States Hurricane, your administration has done the best job ever.

~

Could Obama’s own words be any more revealing as to what a fool and buffoon he is than blaming President Bush for his eight years of Great Recession and taking credit for President Trump’s expansion. In order to lower expectations and his responsibility, Obama stated that the days of 2 percent growth and manufacturing jobs were gone. At the same time he could not have worked harder to flood the nation with low cost illegal alien labor. Let’s hope Obama and his ilk do not continue to flood the nation with illegal’s so as to deprive those most needing a starting job are denied and wages depressed. Progressives and Obama could care less about working people. Keep them poor, victimized, and democratic voters. Obama = false hope and change.

~

How pathetic. Now “president” Obama would like everyone to think he had anything to do with the economic rebound currently being enjoyed by voters in this country. Obama’s single success was to accomplish the nearly total shut down of anything smacking of success in the country in his eight too long years in office.
