Tioga Opportunities, Inc. to host ‘Intro to American Sign Language’ class

American Sign Language (ASL) is a complex language that opens up a world of communication for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Tioga Opportunities, Inc. is partnering with the Southern Tier Independence Center (STIC) to bring an “Intro to ASL” class to Tioga County. Students will learn hand shapes, facial expressions, grammar, sentence structure, family and work signs, and much more. Information will also be shared about deaf culture, its history, and the community.

This class will meet for eight weeks beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Countryside Community Center located at 9 Sheldon Guile Blvd. in Owego.

There is no cost to join this class, but spots are limited. Preference will be given to older adults.

Call (607) 687-4120, ext. 331 to reserve your seat today.
