T.A.L.L. announces Fall 2018 computer class schedule

The Tioga Adult Learning Lab (T.A.L.L.) has released the dates of no cost computer classes for Fall 2018. T.A.L.L. serves adult students throughout the Southern Tier and is operated by Literacy Volunteers of Broome-Tioga Counties, Inc. in partnership with Tioga County, N.Y.  

T.A.L.L. provides instruction in basic computer applications, and offers vocational assistance to those seeking employment. T.A.L.L offers high speed Internet, trained staff to work with adults to improve their personal workplace skills, offers resume and cover letter assistance, and provides students with software to learn basic keyboarding skills.  

A grant-funded program, there are no fees for any of the workshops or services T.A.L.L. provides. Adults of any age are welcome to enroll in classes.

T.A.L.L. operates evenings, Monday through Thursday, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. in Room 225 at the Owego-Apalachin Middle School, located on Sheldon Guile Blvd. in Owego. 

T.A.L.L. is now accepting registrations for the following upcoming fall classes. 

A six-week session of “Basics of Microsoft Windows 7, Word 2013 and Excel 2013” will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 11, for a class meeting six weeks on most Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Instruction will center on the use of Microsoft Word 2013, office word-processing software, and Microsoft Excel 2013 – a Microsoft spreadsheet program.  

Other classes offered include “Using E-Mail Effectively”, planned for Thursday, Sept. 13 or Thursday, Oct. 11 (choose one evening session); “Applying for Jobs Online”, offered Thursday, Oct. 4 or Thursday, Nov. 15 (choose one); “Social Networking – Using Facebook”, offered on Thursday, Nov. 1 or Thursday, Dec. 6 (choose one). The Social Networking and Using Facebook class will outline the basics of setting up and using social media sites, focusing on Facebook, and how to use important privacy and security settings the site offers. 

Other courses offered are “Basics of Microsoft PowerPoint”, a presentation program, on Tuesday, Oct. 23 and Wednesday, Oct. 24 (attend both evenings); and “Basics of Microsoft Publisher”, a desktop publishing program, which will take place on Thursday, Oct. 25. 

Also offered is “Resume Success”, a workshop designed to help adults write or revise their resume, offered Thursday, Sept. 27 or Thursday, Nov. 8 (choose either evening).

All classes are from 6 to 8 p.m., and numerous open-lab evening sessions are also scheduled.
