Fundraising by collecting cans? Let us help. There is a disgusting, can dropping drinker (one preference is Busch beer in a blue can) who dumps cans along Halsey Valley Road and Owl Creek Road, littering our countryside. Why? Probably doesn’t want the spouse to find out how much beer is consumed (while driving). Fundraisers – grab your collection bags!

~

I would like to thank the lady in the doctor’s office who quickly came to help me in my emergency condition. God bless people like you that react to emergencies in a swift manner.

~

The Pennysaver does nicely showing where their political comments start, so when you see the label you can just quit reading certain columns. As far as I know, the Mission, the Salvation Army, the Volunteers of America and perhaps New Hope receive clothing donations. If we would all read our comments out loud to ourselves before we call them in, the few incomprehensible ones might be made a little clearer. But then, they say laughter cures what ails us.

~

I cut out all the hot spot articles out of the Pennysaver. The first one is pure balance, wet and dry food from Walmart. The second one is a tablespoon of coconut oil in the dog’s food. That was supposed to really work and the third one is, you can use a commercially available triple antibiotic cream, the last one is lard. I hope this is helpful to the person who wrote in.

~

Why does Tioga Central, just a few years from a difficult budget situation, feel the need to hire a sixth administrator in a district with declining enrollment?

~

I am calling in regards to the person who was upset in regards to paying school taxes. The question I have is, who paid school taxes when you were in school? Somebody was paying school taxes unless you did not go to school. I am really curious about this.

~

Does anybody else out there have stupid people that park in front of their mailbox when they are visiting somebody’s house? The whole road is free with no cars and the people next door have a driveway, but this idiot always parks in front of my mailbox so my mailman can’t deliver the mail. So I don’t know if he will deliver the mail or not, and if he does, he has to get out and walk it over to put it in my mailbox. Is there a law against it or just stupidity?

~

This is to the people on East Beecher Hill Road that have neighbors who are burning plastic and trash. Tell them to get a hold of the environmental department; it’s also against the law to be burning plastic. It is toxic and you don’t have to smell that. Report it to the police department, do whatever you have to do, even to your mayor, to our senator, whatever; but it’s against the law and these people should have more respect for their neighbors and for the environment.

~

Why is it the price of postage goes up yet the delivery seems to be going astray?

~

Is there a person with persuasion that lives on Rhodes Road in Apalachin that gets action when they complain about road conditions? That road has been tarred and graveled almost every year, but Gardner Road that branches right off from it hasn’t been done in at least six years since I’ve lived here! We have major water drainage issues and constant problems and no call helps. We talked to the Town of Owego and nobody is doing anything about it. So any suggestions how I could proceed from here would be appreciated.

~

I’m looking for a computer that has at least Windows 7 and a port for a phone line, call 687-1991.

~

It’s Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and someone decided to let their dog crap on my sidewalk and it’s still there. I didn’t see who it was, but you’re supposed to pick up your dog crap and I have been finding it in my yard. I have it narrowed down to who it is but this person doesn’t speak English.

The Village of Newark Valley board meeting is the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Come and ask questions. The last meeting I attended, there were only four residents that came; we can do better. Come ask the mayor if any of our 20 percent tax increase will be going down for 2019, ask why the steps at the Post Office needed to be contracted out. Question everything! Come and observe your local government in action! Remember, it is your tax dollars!

~

I love the Reader’s Column, but it should be considered entertainment only. I know that whoever transcribes the calls or reads the emails sometimes does a bit of editorializing; and that’s perfectly fine. But additionally, the responsible thing to do would be to also eliminate comments regarding businesses, whether they be favorable or not. If someone has a comment or issue, it should be directed to the Better Business Bureau where it can be verified and also do the most good. The Reader’s Column should not be used for free advertising, nor for a venue to present issues. Similarly, the column should NEVER be utilized for medical advice! If someone has a way to contact this column, then they have a way to contact their physician or veterinarian! Taking medical advice from a call-in column is extremely dangerous and could lead to a person or pet facing a life-threatening situation. Please use some common sense.

Is the Town of Owego still owed money due to the misappropriation of funds for the 9/11 Memorial? What services the taxpayers paid for were not performed? Will this ever be repaid?

~

To the Village of Newark Valley Mayor, why do you, the village, need to be in the garbage business, is it for the revenue or what? Take a walk Monday morning, not every one uses the service. When I moved to village in 2004, my total for garbage and water was $363, my taxes were $467, for a total of $830. In 2011 it was $546 for taxes, $915.00 for water and garbage, for a total of $1,461. In 2017, my taxes were $632, and $775 for water and garbage for a total of $1,407. It used to be that our school or county taxes exceeded village taxes, but not anymore! Maybe it is time to curb our tax and spend ways, or the board just says NO once in awhile. If you notice the population is getting older (limited income). Beware if the Mayor puts forward a suggestion (garbage for all) it will more than likely happen. Voice your opinion; they work for us not us for them! Come to a meeting on the second Tuesday of each month.

National Political Viewpoints

The Gross Domestic Product, or GDP, is not the most significant indicator of a healthy economy (only those who do not understand the GDP are doomed to sing its praises as such). The stock market is not the most significant indicator of a healthy economy (because wealthy corporations can, and will, keep buying back their stock to boost the price). The two most important indicators of a healthy economy in a capitalist system are wages and inflation. Under Trump we have: stagnating wages, rising inflation (thanks to higher gas prices because of his sanctions on Iran), and 84 percent of the tax breaks in his tax bill going to the rich and corporations. Trump’s successes with our economy are just more of his legerdemain.

~

Isn’t it terrible and childish that a lot of people around Trump have to distract him so he won’t think of Russia. What on earth is he good for? Is it only for his boring rallies? Spreading lies and B.S.? He is pathetic!

~

God bless Melania Trump! She’s showing all women of the world of all ages that you can have your mind and you can have a voice. Speak up! God bless her.

~

Our economy was doing well because the Donald was occupied elsewhere. Now that he is sticking his fingers into this pie, the stock market has frequent roller coasters. Our farmers are going to get one of the greatest squeezes in years. Who next of us is he going to stab in the back? Trump’s expensive taxpayer vacations, all these seem to land at Trump’s own resorts. Hmm, more money in his pockets? Trump promised to do something about excessive prescription prices. Has anyone heard of him doing anything yet? People are dying and are going destitute on these new drugs and the profits go to overseas drug companies to U.S. owned pharmacies.

~

May I correct last week’s caller in that Donald Trump Jr. did not divorce his wife. His wife asked for the divorce. I’m hoping Donald Jr. or Evanka will become our next president come 2024. Trump is doing a fantastic job in the White House. For one thing, have you noticed we’re not talking terrorism much these days as President Trump has gone after them, unlike Obama who looked the other way?

~

So I ask again, why are the people who were so upset if President Trump was elected president, why are they still here in this country? All I heard out of Whoopie was that she was going to move.

~

I had to laugh as I heard the other day that Obama ran a campaign of hope and change. Well we all know now that there was no hope and no change left in our wallets.

~

Let’s just start with saying; I’m considerably older than Mr. Trump and headed towards my 90’s. I’ve seen a lot of presidents come and go but this clown takes the cake. I’ve never seen an idiot like him and his whole family. He’s taught them right, he’s taught them how to lie.

~

The only things Trump can say without screwing up is with notes that someone else wrote or the Teleprompters. No collusion and thank you very much.

~

Big tech like Apple, Facebook, Instagram and other vipers are trying to silence and censor conservative and religious speech. These Marxist Socialists want only their perspective to be accepted by everyone. They abhor free speech. Google fired James Moore for voicing his opinion. These swamp dwellers have hidden behind section 230 of the public decency act. These media outlets should be sued based on liable false advertising and requiring bias speech.

~

My comment is on the terrible crooked political so-called leaders we have in New York State. Now add another one, Chris Collins who has been indicted on insider trading charges.

~

So I ask you, how can anyone in his or her right mind re-elect Governor Cuomo? I say we send him to Puerto Rico because he’s more interested in that area than he is in the state of New York.

~

Yes, President Trump relaxes by playing golf, but he deserves it. Just look at everything he’s accomplished, unlike Obama who liked to golf but did nothing else. He constantly looked the other way. He never tackled any issues, which is why Trump has so much to do. Let the man relax on the golf course.

~

I can’t believe the amount of people, mostly Democrats, concerned with the illegal immigrants trying to cross our borders and then are separated from their children. The immigrants knew the separation would happen, but they continued the journey. You would think the Democrats and the people on the left would be more concerned with the American families who have been permanently separated from their families by the fact that these illegal immigrants have killed their loved ones. Now Pelosi says a vote for the Democrats is a vote to help illegals. I cannot believe what I hear from the Democrats. They all need to retire with their riches and let the Republicans run our country. Only the Republicans are in touch with the true American people.

~

It’s not a perjury trap if you tell the truth. But being a compulsive liar and a crook makes it impossible for Donald Trump to sit for five minutes with Robert Mueller without confessing to being a criminal.

~

What a hoot! Barack Hussein Obama gets a Nobel Peace Prize for doing absolutely nothing FOR EIGHT YEARS! President Trump accomplishes more in 18 months than Obama did in eight years, yet gets no recognition of any kind from the media or anywhere. Why?

~

As I continue to read the “Readers Comments” political section, I can’t help being constantly amazed at the lack of knowledge many commenter’s exhibit when they pitifully try to score points for Trump. A recent contributor boasted that Trump’s Economy had a 4.1 percent GDP QUARTER, something this contributor and Trump claimed never happen under Obama. Oh really? So here we go comparing Apples and Oranges, comparing Trump’s one-quarter report to Obama’s annual reports. The Facts are: While it is true the Gross domestic product (GDP), the total value of goods and services produced in the U.S., never rose above 3 percent annually under Obama, there were, however EIGHT separate QUARTERS where the GDP grew by more than 3 percent. The highest GDP growth recorded under Obama was 5.2 percent in the third quarter of 2014. You know facts can be very pesky things. Trump’s first year GDP number was 2.3 percent, which has been the average for the last 20 years. Let’s see what Trump’s next ANNUAL GDP numbers are when we get there; then we can deal with facts.

Everyone who objects to democratic socialism please notify the 911 dispatchers so they will know you don’t want any help from the socialist police departments, fire departments, highway departments, and emergency squads. Then please pull your kids from public schools as they are guess what?

~

Here we go again with more of the “blaming Moscow for poisoning the Skripal’s, disregarding the absence of proof that would implicate the Kremlin in the crime. The U.S. is adding on more sanction that will hurt the average citizens in Russia and not have any impact on getting Russia to do as the U.S. wants, forget that they didn’t do it just roll over and play dead. On another note the Congress has passed the 2019 Budget, the Military is getting another large increase and Medicaid and Medicare are being reduced again, is this really how you want your tax dollars spent?

~

Lady, it is not your body! I’ll say it again and I hope that Pennysaver will print it this time. If it were your body, we’d all be identical sisters. You see your DNA and the babies DNA has to different. Ask the baby whether he or she wants to live! Yeah! Right, there are so many reasons for abortions. I guess there have been 60 million of them, huh? Quit being so careless with YOUR body! Use the proper type of birth control.

~

Regarding the comment, “I have to say, the fellow who said Ted Nugent should be president was right on after Trump gets his another four years. I also think Wayne LaPierre of the NRA should be his vice president. Go guys, go!” Talk about the bottom of the swamp, they should all be in jail, La Pierre for killing all the kids in school.

~

I guess it’s a blessing that our past GREAT presidents aren’t alive to see such unbelievable actions of Mr. Trump. I can well imagine what they might have thought.

~

It’s a hoot! Liberal Democrats are against voter picture I.D., have no problem with more voters in a state than there are eligible voters and illegal immigrants voting, but are all in an uproar when Conservative Republicans show an increase in voter registration. Why is that?

~

There was no meeting with the Russians. Okay, there was a meeting with the Russians but it was about adoptions. Okay, it wasn’t about adoptions but trump didn’t know about it. Okay, trump knew about it but there was no collusion. Okay, there was collusion but that’s not a crime. Okay, that’s a crime but we wandered into it by accident.

~

As a life-long Republican I should be thrilled with the 4.1 GDP report, but there is a problem. The nation’s fiscal shortfall is running 20 percent ahead of last year and will result in an 800 billion dollar deficit this year, topping a trillion next year. The idea that we could somehow grow ourselves out of deficits has been proven false, once again.

This is all based on rosy predictions; heaven help us if we slip into a recession.

~

In response to the comment, “Is Governor Cuomo the governor of New York or Puerto Rico? He should focus on the problems of New York State, not the problems of Puerto Rico.” If it weren’t for Cuomo, nothing would get done there. He doesn’t even realize they are a part of the U.S.

~

The following is the context of a letter I sent to Congressman Thomas Reed, Congressman Charles Schumer, and Congresswomen Kirsten Gillibrand: Here we go again. President Trump invited a bunch of CEO’s to his New Jersey Golf Resort. I would like to know how much money he is making on this little get-together. If I am not mistaken a President is not allowed to make personal profits on his position as President. Yet this goes on a weekly basis at his hotels and golf courses. I am sure we have several federal government owned meeting and conference centers that could be used. If not we have one in Owego, New York that could be used at our County Building. Everyone needs to remember that they are spending “our money” for his personal gain. Congress must take action to stop this now. He must pay back all the profits he has made on the taxpayers back or “LOCK HIM UP”!
