TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. — After several years of decline in attendance at the Tioga County Fair in New York, coupled with issues surrounding the previous ride company that forced all of the rides to shut down last year, Fair Board President, Jonathan Marks, is looking at this year’s fair as a bit of redemption.

Some major changes happened this year, which Marks saw as necessary, including a significantly lowered all-inclusive gate fee, a new ride company, and an additional night of demo derby action.

The Fair Board also brought back the beer tent and featured live entertainment, daily, on the Show Trailer by the Midway. They enhanced the arts and crafts exhibit, and also offered businesses an opportunity to set up this year, for free.

As one of the oldest fairs in New York, the Tioga County Fair was once the highlight of the community, and was really thriving when there were a higher number of farmers in the area.

Somehow, however, the fair began to wane in attendance over the years, thus forcing fair board members to take a risk with a lower gate fee of $10, and allow for the rides, grandstands, and shows to be included.

So far, it’s paying off.

The action continues at the fair on Saturday for one last day, with gates opening at 8 a.m. and the fair closing at 11 p.m. The rides will open at noon.

  1. I would like to thank the hard-working, dedicated volunteers for bringing back the Tioga County Fair for our future generations. Many of us had the luxury of enjoying the Fair years ago when it was the highlight of our summer vacation as youths. Now you have given that opportunity to so many who would have never experienced such wholesome enjoyment. Amazing job & kudos to all!
