Question: Can I give my cat cream or yogurt?
Answer: As adorable as it is to imagine your kitty lapping up some warm cream from a bowl, Beware! Cats can actually be lactose intolerant. For some cats, milk will give them diarrhea, flatulence and other GI issues. Dairy has no nutritional benefit to adults and as cats get older their tolerance of lactose (the sugar digested in milk) can decrease. They shouldn’t be continually exposed to such high-calorie products. Opt for healthier treats for your kitty like freeze dried chicken or fish or commercial kitty treats.
Question: The pads of my dog’s paws are very thick. Do you think he feels the heat of the sidewalk like we do?
Answer: Yes! During these summer months be cautious of taking your dog out for walks on the black asphalt. Even if the temperature outside is 80 degrees, in the sun the asphalt can get to 125 degrees or higher! Just because your pup has thicker paw pads, doesn’t mean he/she cannot feel the heat and pain. To check, place the back of your hand against the pavement and hold it there for 10 seconds. If it becomes painful for you than you can assume your pooch will feel the same. Choose grass, dirt or other footpaths during your walk or take them out early before the pavement heats up!
