Depot Friday Night continues with the Irish Stoutmen

The Friday night concert series at the Depot in Newark Valley continues on July 13 with the return of the Irish Stoutmen, featuring a multitude of acoustic instruments including the guitar, bass mandolin and bodhran, as well as others. The Stoutmen love big harmonies such as those made famous by the Clancey Brothers and Tommy Makem and the Dubliners.

You will hear well-known and obscure traditional songs including songs of drinking, rebellion, sailing and humor, along with toe tapping reels and beautiful Irish ballads.

On July 20 the Depot welcomes back the Jazz Happens Band bringing with them a repertoire of Dixieland, blues and quick stepping jazz. The Jazz Happens Band is a seven piece band that has performed from Rochester to Syracuse and many cities and towns in-between including the Turning Stone Resort and Casino, the Jazz Festival in Elmira, and the Jazz Society of Rochester.

This band will have you swinging and clapping to the beat and perhaps even dancing on the train platform. The Historical Society will be having a chicken barbeque at the Depot at the same time. Tickets are by pre-sale and available at Depot Friday Night programs or by calling the office at 642-9616 and leaving a message and phone number.

On July 27, the Depot will host Donna and the Country Mystics. This talented and seasoned band will be bringing old country classics as well as new country music with a little twist of variety music and fun.  Donna and the Mystics have played throughout New York State, and the band is a member of the New York State Country Music Hall of Fame. This band has been played together since 1987 and traveled all over the state with their exciting brand of Country Music.

The Depot is located on Depot Street in Newark Valley and the doors open on Friday evenings at 6:00 p.m., with the entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free and refreshments are available.

Weather permitting the programs will be outside on the Depot lawn, so bring a chair.
