BOODENFOOZ Festival planned for July 14 at Hickories Park

Music and technology meld together at the BOODENFOOZ Music and Arts Festival presented by No Tuxedo, LLC on Saturday, July 14 at Hickories Park in Owego.

Russ “The Big Guy” Swanger of No Tuxedo wants to bring creative minds together over new STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) programs in the area. To do this, he is mixing people’s common interests — Indie music and technology.

At the event, Dome of Drones, an enclosed tent for drone flying and other drone flying activities will be available, as well as the Union Endicott’s robotics team showing off their latest project.

Some artists will also make an appearance including Rolling Fire’s mobile glass blowing unit, Madsenarts will have tie-dye shirts and tapestries, and Rover’s Rolling Kitchen will be on site. Other attractions encourage involvement, such as Rob Boss demonstrating street art and Bob Allen demonstrating his collage technique.

Music and technology mix in this event because, as Swanger put it, Indie music is popular with the same crowd of young adults who will be making innovations in the STEAM industry in the future.

Performances at BOODENFOOZ start at noon and run hourly until the final performance at 8 p.m. Bands include Grapefruit Cannonball, Friends with Benny’s, Molina, Groton Ave., Small Mess, The Rocky Burning Band, Tijuana Danger Dogs, Static in the Attic, and Kites and Powerlines.

“BOODENFOOZ is a way to connect young adults, some with families, with the music and tech they love,” said Swanger, adding, “Thus providing one more reason for young professionals and young families to live and thrive in our community.”

Swanger himself knows the frustration of networking when working in the arts and has watched his daughter struggle with making connections in the music industry. He hopes this event is not only fun for the community, but a networking event for people with similar ideas and interests in the shift of STEAM education.

The festival is made a reality with the help of community volunteers, and with financial support from Visions Federal Credit Union, BAE Systems, Maria Vallone at Big Dog Graphics, Jo and Mike Whitney, Cook’s Septic, Floyd’s Rental, Sunshower Productions and ZavaJam Designs.

Tickets for the event are $12 for adults, and children 12 and under are free. There are also discounts offered at www.notuxedollc.com/tickets-discounts.
