A proposal for a $12.19 million project that would construct 40 affordable housing units in the Turtletown area of Owego has been brought to the table.
The company, according to LeAnn Tinney, director of Economic Development, has also requested a 15-year Payment in lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreement with the county. But at Monday night’s village board meeting in Owego, Tinney stated that a decision on the PILOT has not been made yet.
“The application is due in December,” said Tinney, adding that if the builder doesn’t get the funding for the project from the state, the project will not move forward.
The builder, Owego Family Housing, is proposing to build on the 4.6-acre site at East Main Street and Division Street, and directly across from Brick Pond.
And because the development is being proposed in a floodplain, the builders will have to take floodplain construction requirements into consideration.
If approved, the project would create six three-bedroom, 22 two-bedroom, and 12 one-bedroom units.
The proposed development will be discussed further at the next meeting of the Tioga County Planning Board, scheduled for Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Legislative conference room at 56 Main St. in Owego.
