Lockheed Martin-Owego kicks off employee giving campaign

Bob Stabler and Julianne Carlson participated at the Lockheed Martin non-profit fair on Wednesday, Oct. 8., and represented A New Hope Center located at 20 Church St. in Owego, N.Y. An upcoming event they are promoting is the “(Little Black) Dress for Hope,” in recognition of domestic violence awareness month. The event is scheduled on Friday, Oct. 17 starting at 6 p.m. at Tioga Downs Casino in Nichols, N.Y.

John Schickel participated at the Lockheed Martin non-profit fair on Wednesday, Oct. 8, representing Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga Counties, with offices located in Ithaca and Nichols, N.Y. (Tioga Outreach Center). Among many services, the organization also provides a food pantry, clothing and household items.

Lockheed Martin kicked off their annual employee giving campaign by holding a non-profit agency fair at the Owego facility on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Nearly 40 non-profit organizations set up informational booths at the fair for employees to visit and understand where donations are used.
The Employee Charities of Choice Campaign at Lockheed Martin is a three-week campaign, which runs from Oct. 13-31. Campaign Chairperson Lisa Gross stated, “Lockheed Martin employees are very generous and want to help. This campaign further strengthens employee ties to the community.”
The employees of Lockheed Martin-Owego donated more than $700,000 to both local and national non-profits last year, which is an example of their ongoing commitment to the community.
Brian Eldridge, executive director of the Tioga United Way, attended the agency fair. Eldridge took on the role three years ago, just thirteen days prior to the September 2011 flooding. He credits Lockheed Martin’s generosity to the community and the United Way, and stated, “About one-third of Tioga County’s funds comes by way of donations from Lockheed Martin.” The 2014-2015 Tioga United Way campaign began on Sept. 11 and is off to a good start. The Tioga United Way funds more than 30 agencies and helped more than 16,000 residents last year.
Other non-profit organizations participating at the fair included; A New Hope Center of Owego, Catholic Charities of Tompkins and Tioga Counties, Mom’s House, Tioga County Rural Ministry, Owego Gymnastics and Activity Center, Life Choices Center, Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network, the Children’s Home of Binghamton, the Discovery Center, the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group and the American Red Cross, just to name a few.
