Flooding in the Southern Tier

All residents of the Southern Tier have been affected by the flooding experienced in this region in the past few years. Homes and personal property have been destroyed, businesses forced to relocate, schools and places of worship closing their doors at least temporarily.

A panel discussion addressing issues related to flooding will be presented to the public on Sept. 23, at 6:45 p.m. at the Vestal Public Library.

Panel participants include Frank Evangelisti, chief planner for Broome County; Peter L.K. Knuepfer, associate professor of geology and environmental studies at Binghamton University; Kevin Millar, mayor of Owego; and Jim Rollo from State Farm Insurance.

The topics will include a look at flood maps, a discussion of the geological effects on flooding, flood insurance, and the progress made locally in addressing the effects of flooding. There will also be a question and answer period to address your concerns.

The program is presented by the League of Women Voters and is free to the public.
